Time for Kids Camp Out in The Advertiser

BROTHERS PITCH IN TO SUPPORT KID’S CHARITY
THE Liebeknecht brothers are keen to pitch a tent, light up a marshmallow and raise some money for a program that has changed their lives and thousands more.
The four boys – three related by birth and one, Jack, cared for by the Liebeknecht family since three – are part of the Time For Kids program that’s helped more than 5000 children in need for 60 years.
“Jack is an extra son to us and an extra brother to the boys,” says mum Kaysee Liebeknecht, from Mitchell Park. “They have all grown up together and do not see each other as anything other than brothers and best friends.”
The Time for Kids Camp Out, running from October 2-4, hopes to raise enough money to assist about 80 children waiting to take part in the program.
South Australian families are being encouraged to camp out with their children in living rooms, backyards or further afield on the October long weekend, and set up fundraising goals by completing various activities together.
Kaysee and Carl Liebeknecht first met Jack, now 13, when he was a toddler. He spends every Thursday with the family. The couple – parents to Ash, 13, Caleb, 11, and Daniel, 8 – fell in love with the philosophy of Time For Kids.
Now run by Relationships Australia SA, Time For Kids was set up by Juvenile Court magistrate William Scales and his wife, Betty, to connect SA families willing to share their time and support with children and young people in need.
“Our mission remains the same – to support children to their full potential through positive, supportive family relationships and role models,” said Time for Kids team leader Lucy Seppelt.
She said carer families complemented the child’s existing family structure, providing respite and experiences and opportunities that built resilience, self-esteem and confidence.
